Objective
To assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the organization’s computer, server, network, and related IT systems under the guidance of the primary network administrator. The assistant will help to maintain both internal and external network services and provide technical support to the entire organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor email alerts for critical network issues, ensuring immediate attention is given to any critical alerts that arise.
- Monitor backups daily to make sure they have been executed completely and successfully, quickly correcting any issues that may occur.
- Monitor, maintain, and secure VMWARE host and VM servers and operating systems.
- Monitor, maintain, and secure workstations, servers, switches, firewalls, and network systems.
- Monitor the WAN and LAN for connectivity issues, escalating as needed.
- Research and implement security updates, service packs, hotfixes, and updates to all workstations and servers.
- Responsible for handling end user submitted I.T. help tickets, troubleshooting and addressing user issues. Provide first-level support for all technical issues and coordinate with the primary network administrator and vendors when appropriate.
- Maintain and troubleshoot email systems. This includes the filtering of emails, block and allow lists, and the testing of emails and attachments in sandbox environments before releasing emails to end users.
- Responsible for rolling out PCs to end users.
- Responsible for making updates and changes to the Erie Water Works website and internal intranet site.
- Troubleshoot and service multi-function scanner/copier devices, end-user printers, and resolve printing issues.
- Research, design, and implement new hardware and software technologies as necessary.
- Provide support to help manage specific systems such as SCADA, security, ERP, EAMS, and GIS.
- Maintain documentation related to network infrastructure and all performed changes and procedures.
- Evaluate and recommend end user software and hardware purchase requests for any I.T. related equipment and services.
- Anticipate future needs based on industry trends, propose initiatives accordingly, and complete special projects as assigned.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Comply with all rules, regulations, and policies including safety procedures and emergency response protocol. Wear all required personal protective equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Two-year degree in Information Technology or related field; one (1) year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of basic networking concepts such as IP addressing, routers, switches, and firewalls is required.
Preferred: Experience with Microsoft environments (such as Windows Server and Active Directory).

The job demands high-level, independent problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently, alongside a keen attention to detail when reviewing configurations and performance metrics. Administrators must be adept at multitasking, managing several tasks simultaneously, and adapting to rapidly evolving technologies.
Technical skills
Intermediate knowledge of networks, servers, and general troubleshooting; intermediate Windows operating system PC knowledge; and basic knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, and intrusion detection.
Verbal/written communication skills
Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and orally to effectively interacting with end users, team members, leadership, vendors, and service providers. Frequently document procedures and use a centralized system for project management, task management, and documentation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a climate-controlled office setting, but may also spend time in server rooms with specific environmental controls. Additionally, they are required to be on-call for emergencies, necessitating availability outside standard working hours, and often collaborate with inter-departmental teams, making effective communication skills essential in a fast-paced environment.
